Ostrava CUP Ostrava CUP

Tournament Rules

MATCH TIME

Teams are divided into groups of 4 teams (with a possible variation of 5 teams; if the total number of teams is low, there may be a single group with more than 4 teams). In the group stage, teams play against each other in a round-robin format.

Match duration in the group stage is:

2 x 15 minutes running time (for junior boys, junior girls, U18 boys, U18 girls, U16 boys, U16 girls, and U14 boys categories),
2 x 12 minutes running time (for U12 boys and U14 girls categories),
2 x 10 minutes running time (for U12 girls and U10 categories),

according to the rules of the International Floorball Federation (IFF).
The last minute of the second half is played with stopped time. The time stops in case of a goal, injury, or penalty clarification. The break between halves is two minutes. Timeouts are not allowed in the group stage. All teams advance to the playoff stage (Bracket A or Bracket B).

A win in a group-stage match earns 3 points,
A draw earns 1 point,
A loss earns 0 points.
The group ranking determines the placement into the playoff brackets, which are pre-determined. The advancement position is based on group stage results.

With 16 teams, the playoff brackets are divided as follows: The top two teams from groups A–D advance to Bracket A, The third and fourth teams advance to Bracket B. Both Bracket A and Bracket B run separately and do not intersect. When placing teams into Bracket A or B, teams are ranked based on their average points per match in the group stage. If two or more teams have the same number of points, the following criteria are used to determine ranking or advancement:

    • Points earned in head-to-head matches (in case of a mini-table, points from all matches count),
    • Goal difference in head-to-head matches (in case of a mini-table, goal difference from all matches counts),
    • Total goals scored (in case of a mini-table, total goals from all matches count),
    • Draw lots (if necessary).

PLAYOFF MATCH TIMES

Playoff match durations are set according to tournament regulations and follow the rules of the International Floorball Federation (IFF). The last three minutes of the third period are played with stopped time. The break between halves is three minutes.

All playoff matches are played in a single-elimination format. In case of a draw at the end of regulation time, the match proceeds to a penalty shootout with three penalty shots per team. A third-place match is played in Bracket A, while Bracket B only plays for 1st place.

PENALTY SHOOTOUT RULES

Each team selects three players for the shootout. Their jersey numbers and shooting order must be submitted to the referees (preferably in writing). A coin toss determines which team shoots first.

If the score remains tied after three penalty shots per team, a sudden death shootout follows, with teams alternating single penalty shots until a winner is determined.
In the sudden death shootout, any player from the team can take the shot, without restrictions.

TOURNAMENT ORGANIZATION

The tournament organizers reserve the right to adjust the format or rules if a low number of teams are registered in a particular category.

TOURNAMENT JURY

Mgr. Lubomír Šimon
Adam Zmrzlík

PROTESTS

Any protest must be submitted in writing to the tournament jury or hall manager within 15 minutes after the match. The protest fee is 1,000 CZK. If the protest is rejected, the fee is non-refundable. The jury's decision is final.

INSURANCE

Participants compete at their own risk.

TEAM ROSTER

Each team must submit an online player roster before the tournament starts, including jersey numbers and birth years (exact dates are not required).

Only players listed on the roster and wearing a tournament wristband may participate in matches.
After the first match, no new players can be added to the roster.
Players who do not play a match should not be marked as active in the roster.

TEAM COMPOSITION

Teams are expected to have a majority of players from the same club.
Mixed teams, regional selections, and national teams can participate but must compete in a higher age category (e.g., a team with players born in 2008 must register in the junior category).
The junior and junior girls' categories are the only exceptions since they do not have a higher category.

MATCH RECORDS

Match records are fully electronic and do not require manual completion.

Teams must update their roster at the scorer’s table only if changes occur.
Otherwise, the original online roster is used.

WAITING TIME

The maximum waiting time before a match is 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, the match is forfeited 0:5 against the late team.
If a team forfeits two matches due to lateness, it will be disqualified from the tournament, and all of its results will be annulled.

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

Players can only compete for one team during the tournament.
An exception applies to younger players who may also play for an older category within the same club (if match schedules allow).
The team must verify the player's age and identity upon request using an official document.
Opposing teams may challenge a player’s eligibility by filing a protest with a protest fee.
If an ineligible older player is found in a match, the result is forfeited 0:5.

PLAYER EXPULSIONS (RED CARDS)

A technical red card (e.g., incorrect equipment, missing from the lineup) results in expulsion for the match with no additional penalty.
A non-technical red card results in suspension for at least one match while the jury determines the final penalty. The decision will be communicated before the player's next match.

JERSEY COLORS

If both teams have similar jersey colors, the away team (listed second in the match schedule) must change jerseys.

PRE-MATCH WARMUP

Warmups cannot take place on the court (except for finals).
Teams must warm up outside the hall or in designated areas.

LOCKER ROOMS

Due to limited space, locker rooms are only for changing and must be vacated after use.
Teams must bring their belongings onto the court in bags.
A different locker room may be assigned after the match.
The organizer is not responsible for lost items.

MATCH SCHEDULE

The organizer reserves the right to modify the published schedule.
In case of changes, team managers will be notified.

AWARDS

In Bracket A, the top three teams receive medals (based on the official roster).
The winner of each category receives a trophy.
In Bracket B, only the 1st place team is awarded.
Awards are presented immediately after the final match
